What is Air Tightness Testing?

Air Tightness testing, also known as an air leakage test is a test to indicate the cubic metres of air leakage per square metre of external area of the building per hour – [m3 m-2 h-1]. Too much Air leakage leads to unnecessary heat loss, in turn increasing your heating bills and CO2 production. As the Government strives to reduce CO2 emissions from new buildings, building regulations now place greater emphasis on the quality of the fabric of the building.

All of our air tightness, air pressure and air permeability tests are carried out in accordance with ATTMA TS1 issue 2 to BS EN 13829 method B standards, and all our test engineers are trained and registered members of ATTMA.

Will you require an Air Tightness Test?

If you have constructed a new dwelling, then Part L of the Building Regulations states that, with few exceptions, you must now have an Air Tightness Test performed on that dwelling. An air tightness test is used to calculate the air permeability rating for that dwelling. It is this rating that is submitted to Building Control and which must meet the latest Building Regulation standards for conservation of fuel and power.

One of our consultants will be happy to discuss your Air testing requirements for your development.
